In 2015, nearly 688,000 people worked in the 85,300 businesses in Germany whose main activity was in the field of information technology. The number of people working in that branch rose by approximately 22,800 or 3.4% year-on-year, while the number of companies was up by almost 5,400 (+6.7%).

At the end of 2015, approximately 1,358 direct insurance and reinsurance companies and pension funds were operating in Germany. While direct insurers cover various risks of private individuals and businesses, reinsurers cover the risks of other insurance companies. Pension funds are a type of employee pension scheme.

The turnover in selected service branches in the first quarter of 2017 was a calendar and seasonally adjusted 5.9% higher than in the first quarter of 2016. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that, according to first calculations of short-term statistics, the adjusted turnover index rose 1.8% on the fourth quarter of 2016.

In 2015, settlement with statutory health insurance institutions accounted for the largest part of the receipts of medical practices (70.4%). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that 26.3% of the receipts came from settlement with private patients and 3.3% from other medical self-employment activities.

The practices for public health patients in Germany obtained average receipts of 486,000 euros in 2011. Across all practices for public health patients, the average net profit per practice was 235,000 euros in 2011.
