First six months of 2017: number of people dying in road traffic accidents up 6.2%

1,536 people died in traffic accidents on German roads in the first six months of 2017. According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this was an increase of 90 people, or 6.2%, on the first half of 2016. However, the number of persons injured was down 0.2% to roughly 183,900.

More traffic accidents but fewer fatalities than ever before in 2016

In 2016 the number of traffic accidents reached a new record high. Based on final results of the statistics of traffic accidents, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the police recorded roughly 2.6 million road traffic accidents, which was 2.7% more than in 2015.
