Crafts: Turnover increased by 5.9% in the 2nd quarter of 2018

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), turnover in crafts with compulsory approval increased by 5.9% in the second quarter of 2018 compared to the second quarter of 2017. At the end of June 2018 the number of persons employed by crafts entrepreneurs increased by 0.4% compared to the level a year earlier.

Year 2017: 3.6% more turnover in the crafts sector than in the year 2016

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in the year 2017 the turnover in crafts with compulsory approval was up 3.6% compared to the year 2016. At the same time, the number of persons employed by crafts entrepreneurs in the year 2017 increased by 0.6% compared to the level a year earlier.

In 2016 a total of 554,000 enterprises were active in the German crafts sector. These enterprises realised a turnover of 551 billion Euros. In the year 2016 an average of about 5.1 million persons were employed by crafts entrepreneurs. About 3.8 million of them were employed subject to social insurance contribution. Roughly 722,000 were employed in marginal employment.
