Businesses with high speed broadband: Germany still EU average in 2017

Of all enterprises with at least 10 employees that have internet access in Germany, 42% had high-speed web access in 2017. Fast internet access is defined as a fixed broadband connection with a contractually agreed data transfer speed of at least 30 Megabits per second (Mbps). Compared to other EU Member States, this places Germany in the mid-range, slightly above the EU average of 40%.

Almost one in four businesses engaged in e-commerce in 2016

Nearly one out of four businesses (23%) in Germany sold their goods or services via a website, app or electronic data interchange using dedicated lines (EDI) in 2016.

Turnover of 337 billion euros in ICT sector in 2015

In 2015, the turnover of information and communications technology (ICT) enterprises in Germany amounted to 337.3 billion euros (excluding turnover tax). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this is an increase in turnover of 23.1 billion euros (+7.3%) on a year earlier. The highest turnover was recorded in the ICT service sector (203.4 billion euros or 60.3%).
