Expenditure on environmental protection amounted to 58.2 billion euros in Germany in 2014. Of this amount, 15.1% was financed by the general government (8.8 billion euros), 22.7% by households (13.2 billion euros) and 62.2% by corporations (roughly 36.2 billion euros). The majority of total expenditure was made for waste management (49.2%) and waste water management (32.4%).
