Environmental protection expenditure amounted to 58.2 billion euros in 2014

Expenditure on environmental protection amounted to 58.2 billion euros in Germany in 2014. Of this amount, 15.1% was financed by the general government (8.8 billion euros), 22.7% by households (13.2 billion euros) and 62.2% by corporations (roughly 36.2 billion euros). The majority of total expenditure was made for waste management (49.2%) and waste water management (32.4%).

Environmental tax revenue amounted to 58.0 billion euro in 2016

In 2016 environmental tax revenue amounted to 58.0 billion euros. Energy tax (previously mineral oil tax) contributed 40.1 billion euros to the total, motor vehicle tax 9.0 billion euros and electricity tax 6.6 billion euros.
