Germany exported goods to the value of 107.2 billion euros and imported goods to the value of 84.9 billion euros in June 2017. Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that German exports increased by 0.7% and imports by 3.6% in June 2017 year on year. Compared with May 2017, exports were up by a calendar and seasonally adjusted 2.8%, while imports were down by 4.5%.

Germany exported goods to the value of 1,206.9 billion euros and imported goods to the value of 954.8 billion euros in 2016. Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that German exports increased by 1,1% and imports by 0,6% in 2016 compared with 2015.

The United Kingdom's exit from the European Union (EU) will be a topic for discussion on Europe Day celebrated on 9 May. The United Kingdom is the second important sales market for German exporters among the EU Member States.

In 2016 the top country of destination for German exports was the United States followed by France and the United Kingdom. Germany exported goods worth 106.9 billion euro to the United States, 101.4 billion euro to France and 86.1 billion euro to the United Kingdom.

Accounting for 18.9% motor vehicles and parts thereof of exports, was Germany's main export product in 2016. Machinery (14.1%) and chemical products (8.9%) ranked second and third, respectively, among the most important export items.
