Personal inflation calculator
How much does my personal inflation rate differ from the official one?
The consumer price index for Germany (CPI) measures the average price changes of all goods and services purchased by households for consumption purposes. To compute the inflation rate, the average price development compared to the base year of each product type is weighted with the expenditure share spent on this type of product by all households in Germany. To what degree a household is affected by inflation depends on how much money it spends on what products. Those who have no car, for example, will not spend money on petrol – but petrol is contained in the basket of price statistics.
By adjusting the sliders in this online-application you can change the weights for some products of your own consumption habits. This way you can represent your personal inflation rate and compare it to the official calculated.
