In 2015, German public and private institutions of higher education spent Euro 50.0 billion on teaching, research and health treatment. That was 3.7% more than in 2014 (Euro 48.2 billion).
According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 275.8 billion euros were spent on education, science and research in Germany in 2015. That was an increase of 8.8 billion euros, or 3.3%, compared with 2014.
In 2016, 823,000 people received training assistance under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of BAföG recipients was down by approximately 47,000 or 5.5% compared with 2015.
In 2016, 25.500 students received a Germany Scholarship in accordance with the Scholarship Programme Act. This figure, as the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports, represented an 5% year-on-year rise in the number of scholarship holders.
