Higher education expenditure up to 52 billion euros in 2016

In 2016, public, church and private institutions of higher education in Germany spent 52.1 billion euros on teaching, research and health treatment. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 4% compared with 2015 (50.0 billion euros).

BAföG statistics 2017: 782,000 recipients of training assistance in Germany

In 2017, 782,000 people received training assistance under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a decrease of roughly 41,000 (–5.0%) on 2016. The recipients included approximately 225,000 pupils and 557,000 students in 2017.

Assistance pursuant to the Upgrading Training Assistance Act up 11.2% in 2017 year on year

In 2017, a total of 641 million euros of financial assistance was available within the scope of the Upgrading Training Assistance Act (AFGB). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was an increase of 11.2% (+ 64 million euros) on 2016.

25.500 students received a Germany Scholarship in 2016

In 2016, 25.500 students received a Germany Scholarship in accordance with the Scholarship Programme Act. This figure, as the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports, represented an 5% year-on-year rise in the number of scholarship holders.
