Number of deaths up 6.5% in 2015

A total of 925,200 people died in Germany in 2015 – 449,512 men and 475,688 women. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of deaths increased by 6.5% compared with a year earlier. Nearly half of all female deaths and a fourth of all male deaths were to those aged 85 years and over.

The consequences of smoking cost women more than 10 years of their lives

Women who died in 2014 from cancer types that can be considered as connected to tobacco consumption reached an average age of 70.9 years. This is 10.4 years less than the average age of death of all deceased women. Over the last ten years, the number of women who died from the consequences of smoking rose by roughly 33% from 11,870 in 2005 to 15,748 in 2014.
