At the end of 2015, roughly 7.6 million severely disabled people were living in Germany. This was an increase of around 67,000 or 0.9% compared with the end of 2013. Accordingly, 9.3% of Germany's total population were severely disabled in 2015.
In 2013, 10.2 million people with an officially recognised disability - on the basis of microcensus results - were living in Germany. On average, more than one in eight inhabitants (13%) was disabled.
