Sales of beer down 1.6% in the first quarter of 2018

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, the beer producing and storing establishments in Germany sold 19.6 million hectolitres of beer in the first quarter of 2018. That was a decrease of 1.6% from the corresponding period of the previous year.

Tax paid on fewer cigarettes in the first quarter of 2018

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the quantity of cigarettes on which tax was paid in Germany decreased by 6.8% in the first quarter of 2018 compared with the same quarter a year earlier. The total value of tobacco products in terms of retail prices on which tax was paid in Germany in the first quarter of 2018 amounted to 5.9 billion euros. That was a decrease of 0.3 billion euros or 4.7% from the corresponding period of the preceding year

Tax to the amount of 15.9 billion euros was paid on petrol in 2016

Energy products are among the goods subject to excise duties yielding most revenue. People using motor vehicles contribute most to the energy tax revenue. Tax to the amount of 15.9 billion euros was paid on petrol in 2016; the tax revenue was down 1.2% on 2015.

Roughly 510 million megawatt hours of electricity declared or consumed in 2015

For reference year 2015, a total (monthly and annual respondents) of roughly 510.4 million megawatt hours of electricity was declared or consumed; only 13.3 million megawatt hours, or 2.6%, were declared through monthly tax returns.

Spirits, sparkling wine

1.8 million hectolitres of alcohol were declared through the spirits tax in 2016

Spirits and goods containing spirits are subject to spirits tax in the German fiscal territory. In 2016, roughly 1.8 million hecto­litres of alcohol were declared for taxation. Imports from EU Member States and third countries accounted for 10.2% of the amount.

3.4 million hectolitres of sparkling wine sold in 2016

Roughly 3.4 million hecto­litres of sparkling wine were sold in 2016. This comprises taxed domestic sales (3.0 million hecto­litres) and tax-exempt exports (0.4 million hecto­litres). The tax revenue due to the Federation from the taxed sales of sparkling wine amounted to 404 million euros.
