UEFA Women's EURO 2017: statistics on the participating countries
In 2015, there were approximately 9.2 million women aged 15 to 34 living in Germany – the perfect age for playing football professionally. Eleven of these 9.2 million women will be on the pitch as of the 16th July, when the UEFAWomen's EURO 2017 begin in the Netherlands.
The Russian Federation statistically has the best chance of picking a winning team. According to United Nations data 19.6 million women aged 15 to 34 lived there in 2015, more than in any of the other 16 finalist countries. However, to date they have yet to win the competition. Of the 11 championships held since 1984 the German team won 8, Norway won 2 and Sweden's female team won 1.
We have compiled some interesting data on the 16 participating countries. You can also directly compare two competing nations with one another head-to-head in terms of football and sport, population, economy, employment and communication.

Bus crash: four bus passengers died in traffic accidents in 2016
On the A9 near Münchberg, the worst bus accident of recent years happened on 3 July . In general, however, buses are considered a safe means of transport.
All in all, 3,206 people, four of whom were bus passengers, died on German roads in 2016. In other words, only 0.1% of all people who were killed in traffic accidents were bus passengers. According to provisional results, 387 people were seriously and 5,140 slightly injured in bus crashes in 2016. They accounted for 1.7% of all people injured in road traffic accidents.
A comparison of all means of transport and their relevant transport performance shows that passenger cars are especially dangerous. The risk of dying in a car accident is nearly ten times as high as the risk of being killed in a bus crash. Taking a transport performance of one billion passenger-kilometres as a basis, the number of deaths that occurred in passenger cars on an annual average between 2010 and 2014 amounted to 1.95. Regarding buses, the relevant figure was 0.2.

Holidays in the EU: Denmark is a very expensive destination, Bulgaria the least costly
In some Länder, the summer holidays have already started. Last year Bulgaria was the least expensive destination for holiday-makers in the EU. According to provisional data, the price level of overnight stays in hotels and eating out in restaurants in Bulgaria was 59% below that of Germany in 2016.
Prices were equally low in Romania (-52%). Holiday-makers who travelled to popular tourist destinations such as Croatia or Portugal also spent less money compared with holidays in Germany: they paid 34% and 31% less, respectively, for eating out in restaurants and staying overnight in hotels than in the Federal Republic in 2016.
In many EU countries, however, hotels and restaurants charge higher prices than in Germany: in 2016 this applied for instance to France (+7%) and Ireland (+10%). Tourists in northern Europe had to dig deepest into their pockets. In Denmark, for example, the price level in restaurants and hotels exceeded that of Germany by 38%, in Sweden it was 32% higher. The most expensive countries in Europe for holiday-makers were Switzerland (+53%) and Iceland (+49%).
