Roughly 15.3 million people with a migrant background lived in Germany on 9 May 2011. Based on the results of the 2011 Census, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this is a share of 19.2% of the population.

On the census reference date of 9 May 2011, 45% of all households in Germany lived in their own home. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the owner-occupier rate among all types of households was highest for couples with minor children (58%).

Men twice as often in executive positions as women

According to the census results for reference date 9 May 2011, 6.8% (1.5 million) of the total of 21.4 million men in employment worked as executives. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the proportion of women in executive positions in relation to the total of 18.8 million women in employment was 3.0% (0.6 million).

More than a third of the households in Germany are single households

The proportion of single households in Germany is 37.2%; thus 17.1% if the population live alone. Among those 13.4 million people, just 17.6% are less than 30 years old. 42.0% of them live in cities with 100,000 or more inhabitants. Based on the results of the 2011 Census, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that single households are the most frequent household type in Germany.

The statistical offices have released results of the 2011 Census. This will have far-reaching consequences not only for legal regulations like those governing the financial equalisation schemes for municipalities and Länder but also for numerous sets of official statistics.
