Publication Enterprises engaged in foreign trade: New opportunities for analysis due to microdata linking

The analysis of the foreign trade activities of enterprises using linked datasets gives researchers and policymakers the opportunity to gain new insights. This article sheds light on various options for linking a new set of foreign trade data, the AFiD Panel International Trade in Goods Statistics, with data from structural business statistics and the statistical business register, and for analysing the combined data. In addition, microdata from international trade in goods statistics have been linked and analysed for the first time with foreign direct investment data from the Deutsche Bundesbank.
