WIESBADEN – On 1 January 2016, roughly 683,000 public service pensioners were counted at Länder level. Based on provisional figures from the statistics on public service pensioners, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of former public officials at Länder level was up by 4.3% from a year earlier.
At Länder level, the number of public service pensioners has increased at an ever faster rate since the mid-1990s. And it has more than doubled since 1995 (+138%).
