WIESBADEN – In 2013, the use of cooling water by local units of energy supply enterprises in Germany decreased by roughly 7.0 billion cubic metres compared with 2010. This figure, as the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports, represents a decline of 34.7%. The total volume of water used for cooling purposes in all non-public local units fell from approximately 25.2 billion cubic metres to 17.6 billion cubic metres (–30.1% or –7.6 billion cubic metres) over the three-year period.
