WIESBADEN – Nearly 4.1 million tonnes of meat were produced by commercial slaughterhouses in Germany in the first six months of 2016. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the quantity produced was slightly above the level reached in the first half of the previous year. Thus a new record high was achieved during the first six months of the year.
The quantity of pork produced by commercial slaughtering (2.8 million tonnes) was down 0.3% (–8,500 tonnes) in the first half of 2016.
Regarding cattle, however, a total of 1.7 million heads were slaughtered commercially in the first half of 2016, which was an increase of 1.2% (+20,900 heads).
