Press release No. 290 of 23 August 2016
WIESBADEN – The employment rate of 20 to 64 year old immigrants who were not born in Germany amounted to 69.3% in 2014. It was roughly 10 percentage points lower than the employment rate of the domestic population of the same age group (79.6%). Based on the results of an additional microcensus survey of 2014, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that only 52.3% of the immigrants with a basic knowledge of German were in employment. The employment rate of immigrants who were fluent in German was 77.3% and hence about one third higher. It nearly reached the relevant rate of the domestic population.
