Press 41.4 million dwellings at the end of 2015

WIESBADEN – At the end of 2015, the number of dwellings in residential and non-residential buildings amounted to roughly 41.4 million in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the stock of dwellings excluding those in residential establishments, which have only been covered since 2011, was 41.0 million. Compared with the year 2000, the stock of dwellings increased by 2.6 million or 6.8%. The number of dwellings per 1,000 inhabitants amounted to 499 at the end of 2015. This was an increase of 32 per 1,000 inhabitants compared with the situation 15 years ago (2000: 467 dwellings).
