WIESBADEN – The number of persons employed in transportation and storage rose by 1.6% in the third quarter of 2016 compared with the same quarter of 2015. Based on first calculations, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of persons employed in this sector of economic activity has increased in each quarter year-on-year since the second quarter of 2010. Turnover, however, declined by 0.8% in the third quarter of 2016 from the same quarter a year earlier.
Transportation and storage include land transport (road and rail) and transport via pipelines, water transport, air transport, warehousing and support activities for transportation (for instance operation of transport routes, railway stations, airports, and postal and courier activities).
