Press release No. 446 of 12 December 2016
WIESBADEN – In 2015 more than 1.1 million tonnes of sewage sludge (dry matter) - that is, the major part of the total amount - were incinerated by public waste water treatment plants in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a 6% increase on a year earlier.
On the whole, just over 64% of the total of sewage sludge directly disposed of (roughly 1.8 million tonnes) were subjected to thermal processes.
Basic data and long time series are available in table Dry matter of sewage sludge disposed of directly from waste water treatment plants (32214-0001) in the GENESIS-Online database
