WIESBADEN – In autumn 2016, farmers in Germany sowed winter grain on 5.34 million hectares of land for the next harvest of 2017. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the area cultivated with winter grain for the 2017 harvest has remained almost unchanged compared with the relevant area in 2016 (–0.8%). Winter grain comprises winter wheat, winter barley, rye and maslin, and also triticale. With a cultivated area of 1.34 million hectares, winter rape, too, has remained almost constant on 2016 (+0.8%).
