Press Nearly 2.9 million people were in need of long-term care in December 2015

WIESBADEN – In December 2015, 2.86 million people in Germany were in need of long-term care as defined by the Long-Term Care Insurance Act (German Social Code, Book XI). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that their number rose by 234,000 or 8.9% compared with December 2013.
83% of those in need of long-term care were 65 years and older, more than one third (37%) were at least 85 years of age. The majority were women (64%).
