Press People in employment would like to increase their working time by 0.5 hours (current average: 35.6 hours)

Press release No. 024 of 19 January 2017

WIESBADEN – The usual weekly working hours of all persons in employment aged 15 to 74 years, measured as the total of main and secondary activities, amounted to an average of 35.6 hours in 2015. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that, in purely arithmetical terms, the extra or fewer hours people wanted to work would on balance result in an increase of the weekly working time of 0.5 hours per person in employment. Respondents were asked to take into account that more working hours would involve correspondingly higher earnings and fewer hours correspondingly lower earnings.
