WIESBADEN – Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that price-adjusted new orders in manufacturing had increased in December 2016 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 5.2% on November 2016. For November 2016, revision of the preliminary outcome resulted in a decrease of 3.6% compared with October 2016 (primary –2.5%). Price-adjusted new orders without major orders in manufacturing had increased in December 2016 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 0.4% on November 2016.
In December 2016, domestic orders increased by 6.7% and foreign orders by 3.9% on the previous month. New orders from the euro area were up 10.0% on the previous month, new orders from other countries remained unchanged compared to November 2016.
In December 2016 the manufacturers of intermediate goods saw new orders fall by 0.6% compared with November 2016. The manufacturers of capital goods showed increases of 9.7% on the previous month. For consumer goods, a decrease in new orders of 1.8% was recorded.
Turnover –2.9% seasonally adjusted on the previous month
The price-adjusted turnover in manufacturing in December 2016 was down a seasonally and working-day adjusted 2.9% on the previous month. In November 2016, the corrected figure shows an increase of 0.7% to October 2016 (primary +0.4%).

New orders and turnover are covered and evaluated in accordance with the Classification of Economic Activities, 2008 edition (WZ 2008). New orders are covered only in selected economic branches of manufacturing.
