WIESBADEN – More goods than ever have been transported in Germany in 2016. According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the volume of transport in 2016 is expected to have risen 1.1% on the previous year, reaching 4.6 billion tonnes. Road, maritime transport, crude oil transport via pipelines and air freight contributed to the growth. Decline was recorded for rail transport and inland waterways.
