Press Number of local units in energy and water supply up 7.7% in December 2016

Press release No. 082 of 8 March 2017

WIESBADEN – At the end of December 2016, just under 2,400 local units with at least 20 persons employed were counted in the sectors of energy and water supply in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 7.7% on December 2015. The main reason for this rise was the ongoing structural change in the energy industry, with many local units moving from the services sector to energy supply.

Consequently, the highest increases in the number of local units were observed in electricity supply (+11.8%) and gas supply (+6.4%).
