WIESBADEN – Households in Germany spent an average 859 euros per month, that is roughly 36% of their consumption budget, for housing, energy and maintenance of the dwelling in 2015. Housing expenditure continued to account for the largest proportion of private consumption expenditure. This is reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) to coincide with the World Consumer Rights Day on 15 March.
The proportion of housing expenditure decreases with growing household size.
