WIESBADEN – According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 275.8 billion euros were spent on education, science and research in Germany in 2015. That was an increase of 8.8 billion euros, or 3.3%, compared with 2014. Factors contributing to this development included especially the expansion of child day care centres and an increase in research and development expenditure. When measured as a percentage of the 2015 gross domestic product, 9.1% were spent on education, science and research (2014: 9.2%).
