Press release No. 124 of 10 April 2017
WIESBADEN – In 2016, passengers in Germany used regular short and long-distance bus and rail transport services nearly 11.4 billion times. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a 1.5% increase on a year earlier. An average of 31 million passengers used regular transport services every day in 2016. The more frequent use of these means of public transport was also due to higher numbers of inhabitants, persons in employment, pupils, and students.
Carriers transported more than 11.2 billion passengers by short-distance services, which was an increase of 1.4% on 2015.
