WIESBADEN – According to provisional data, roughly 510,900 young people in Germany concluded a new apprenticeship contract within the dual system (enterprise/vocational school) in 2016. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a decrease of 5,700 contracts, or 1.1%, on 2015.
The downward trend, which was observed in the preceding years, too, was mainly due to the demographic development of the age group typically undergoing dual vocational training and a higher inclination to study among school leavers with higher education entrance qualification.
