Press release No. 188 of 9 June 2017
WIESBADEN – In the first quarter of 2017, German local courts reported 5,177 business insolvencies. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decline of 4.3% compared with the first quarter of 2016. Thus the trend of declining business insolvencies continued in the first quarter of 2017. An increase in the number of business insolvencies was last recorded in the first quarter of 2010 (+6.7% on the first quarter of 2009). Since that time the number of business insolvencies has always been lower than in the corresponding quarters of the preceding year.
The local courts reported that, in relation to the business insolvency requests, the prospective debts owed to creditors amounted to roughly 5.1 billion euros in the first quarter of 2017.
