WIESBADEN – The price level of private consumption expenditure in Germany in 2016 was by 3.6% higher than the average of the 28 Member States of the European Union (EU). The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that in most of Germany's immediate neighbouring countries the price level was higher than in Germany, as was the case in the previous years. Only in Poland and in the Czech Republic was the cost of living lower.
