Press Proportion of women obtaining a post-doctoral lecturing qualification continues to increase

Press release No. 217 of 28 June 2017

WIESBADEN – A total of 1,581 scientists completed their post-doctoral lecturing qualifications (habilitations) at universities in Germany in 2016. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the total of habilitations declined by nearly 3% compared with the previous year. At the same time, the number of women who obtained a post-doctoral lecturing qualification rose by 4% to 481. This means that habilitations completed by women accounted for 30% of all habilitations (previous year: 28%). Hence the continuous increase in the relevant proportion of women continued. In 2006, it still amounted to 22%.

Basic data and long time series are available in table Postdoctoral lecturing qualifications (21351-0001) in the GENESIS-Online database.
