WIESBADEN – In 2016, 823,000 people received training assistance under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of BAföG recipients was down by approximately 47,000 or 5.5% compared with 2015. The year-on-year decline had been 5.9% in 2015. Recipients included roughly 239,000 pupils and 584,000 students in 2016. The number of pupils who received training assistance fell by 7.6% and that of students by 4.5% on a year earlier.
