WIESBADEN – The property transfers by inheritance or gift which the fiscal authorities assessed for tax purposes increased to 108.8 billion euros in 2016. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that these transfers were back at their 2014 high, following a 6.2% decrease in 2015. The total taxable receipts of transfers rose by 7.7% to 37.7 billion euros in 2016 from the previous year. Compared with 2014, this was an increase of as much as 11.7%. The assessed inheritance and gift tax amounted to 6.8 billion euros in 2016 (+24.6% on 2015). This represented the fourth consecutive year-on-year rise.
