Press Number of abortions up 2.7% in the 2nd quarter of 2017

WIESBADEN – In the second quarter of 2017, roughly 25,600 abortions were reported in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 2.7% compared with the same period a year earlier.

Nearly three quarters (72%) of the women who had an abortion in the second quarter of 2017 were aged between 18 and 34, 18% between 35 and 39 years. Roughly 8% of the women were 40 years or older. The proportion of women aged under 18 was 3%. Approximately 39% of the women who had an abortion were women with no prior live births.
