WIESBADEN – In 2016, roughly 5.4 million people aged 15 to 74 years wanted to have a job or to work more hours, according to results of the labour force survey. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that their number fell by 255,000 (-4.5%) compared with the previous year.
The unused labour supply comprised just under 1.8 million unemployed, 1.0 million people in the hidden labour force and a total 2,6 million underemployed persons.
