Press release No. 341 of 28 September 2017
WIESBADEN – In 2016 the local units of mining and manufacturing produced 54 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this is a share of 11.2% of the gross electricity production in Germany, including the public power plants, as recorded by the official statistics agencies. The share of industrial electricity in the gross electricity production reported was by 0.8 percentage points higher than in 2015. Since 2006 (8.6%), that proportion increased by 2.6 percentage points. In the first place, the industrial power plants meet internal demand, but in many instances electricity is supplied to other local units or exported to the public electricity grid.
