Press release No. 367 of 16 October 2017
WIESBADEN – In September 2017, consumers in Germany had to pay over 70% more for butter compared with a year earlier. To coincide with the World Food Day on 16 October, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the consumer prices of dairy products (+15%) increased markedly, too, in the same period. The most significant price increases were recorded for cream, milk and curd (roughly +30% each). Compared with the previous year, cheese and yoghurt, too, have been much more expensive in the last few months due to the price increase.
The 2017 trend of increasing butter and dairy product prices has affected consumers and preceding stages in the economic process to a similar extent.
