Press release No. 401 of 13 November 2017
WIESBADEN – In 2016, network operators supplied roughly 162 terawatt hours (TWh) of heat. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a year-on-year increase of 3.2%. This increase was mainly due to the fact that households required more heat.
The main energy sources for heat generation in 2016 were natural gas (45%), hard coal (22%) and waste (15%).
Basic data and long time series are available in table Net production of heat, fuel input, purchase of fuels, stock of fuels (43411-0001) in the GENESIS-Online database.
