WIESBADEN – All in all, 53,300 children or young people in Germany were placed in residential care or in another form of supported housing by youth welfare offices in 2016. To coincide with the present International Children's Rights Day, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a 20% increase in new residential care cases on a year earlier. Compared with 2014, the increase was as much as 50%.
