Press release No. 432 of 30 November 2017
WIESBADEN – The collectively agreed earnings, as measured by the index of agreed monthly earnings including extra payments, increased by an average of 1.4% in the third quarter of 2017 compared with the same quarter of the previous year. Consumer prices were up by an average of 1.8% over the same period. The comparatively low rise in agreed earnings was due to a decrease in extra payments, which had a one-off effect. In the third quarter of 2016, federal and municipal employees covered by the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD) received high back payments which were, however, not paid in the third quarter of 2017. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that, excluding extra payments, the year-on-year increase in the third quarter of 2017 was 2.6%. This increase corresponds to the average rise over the past 20 quarters.
