Press January to September 2017: business insolvencies down 8.0% compared with the first 9 months of 2016

WIESBADEN – From January to September 2017, German local courts reported 15,169 business insolvencies. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decline of 8.0% compared with the same period a year earlier. The number of consumer insolvencies amounted to 53,977 from January to September 2017, with the number of cases being down 7.9% from the first nine months of 2016. Including insolvencies of other private debtors and deceased persons' estates, total insolvency cases amounted to 86,967; that was a decrease of 6.5% compared with January to September 2016.

The local courts reported that, in relation to business insolvency requests, the prospective debts owed to creditors amounted to roughly 18.0 billion euros for January to September 2017.
