Press release No. 457 of 14 December 2017

WIESBADEN – In 2017, flowers and ornamental plants were cultivated on a basic area of 6,600 hectares by just under 3,700 holdings specialising in such products. The number of producers fell considerably by 18% compared with the survey of ornamental plants conducted in 2012, while the basic area used for cultivation was reduced only slightly by 2%. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that more than one quarter (1,700 hectares) of that basic area was under elevated walk-in covers like greenhouses.
