Press 54% of consumption expenditure spent on housing, food and clothing in 2016

WIESBADEN – In 2016, households in Germany spent just under 54% of their consumption expenditure on housing, food and clothing. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an average amount of 1,327 euros per household each month. Housing expenditure alone accounted for roughly 35%, or 877 euros per month. Approximately 14%, or 342 euros, were spent on food, while clothing expenditure accounted for roughly 4% (108 euros).
