Press release No. 470 of 21 December 2017
WIESBADEN – In autumn 2017, farmers in Germany sowed winter grain on 5.16 million hectares of land. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the area cultivated with winter grain for the 2018 harvest is 120,900 hectares smaller (–2%) than the relevant area in 2017. In some Länder, the decrease is due to poor weather conditions. Winter grain comprises winter wheat, winter barley, rye and maslin as well as triticale.
