WIESBADEN – The revenue of the core and extra budgets of the municipalities and associations of municipalities (excluding city states) exceeded expenditure by 10.7 billion euros in 2017. Based on quarterly cash statistics, the Federal Statistical Office also reports that the improvement in municipal finance thus continued. Since 2012, the balance of revenue and expenditure has always been positive and in 2017 it reached a record high. The core budgets accounted for 9.7 billion euros of the total surplus in 2017.
