WIESBADEN – Roughly 514,900 young people in Germany concluded a new apprenticeship contract within the dual system (enterprise/vocational school) in 2017. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 4,900 contracts, or 1.0%, compared with 2016. While the number of new contracts concluded by men increased significantly (+11,500 or +3.7% on 2016), the number of new apprenticeship contracts concluded by women decreased by 6,600, or 3.3%, continuing the downward trend of the previous years.
